Joining me this week in The Bunker is the Technical Director of Gunther Werks, Amjad Ali. He’s brought in this glorious Gunther Werks Porsche 993 Restomod, to show off the endless technical details on this car.

This upgrade project started as a question around five years ago, when the Gunther Werks team worked to keep the essence of this beautiful car, but improve its performance to match modern standards. Could it be better than a Singer 911? You decide!

Each upgrade made to this Porsche is performance orientated to optimise weight, including the removal of the traditional power steering system. This has been replaced with an electric hydraulic steering system, to improve weight distribution and increase horse-power going to the wheels. The carbon-fibre sculpture of the body is even better in person than it is on camera, weighing in at only 1160kg, with the upgrade’s primary focus being on functionality over simply prioritising good looks.

Every part of the engine is bespoke, employing precision engineering on the air cooled, naturally aspirated 4.0L flat six, capable of 345hp. And the results are marvellous: with it currently holding the record for being the fastest naturally aspirated 911 around, completing a 130.99s lap time.

Sitting inside the car feels fantastic, with each carbon-fibre element of the interior being made in-house by the Gunther Weks team. From the gear stick to the door cards, each component is cold to the touch and refreshingly beautiful.

Taking the car out on the road, the drive quality is outstanding; it drives like a race car and makes all the right noises to make you giggle! The work that the team have done on the engine has entirely transformed the driving experience of the car, and its lack of weight means the Porsche 933 can really move. With analogue engineering and perfectly positioned seats, the direct steering makes it so beautifully poised, and the sound is absolutely awesome.

What is even more impressive in my eyes is that Gunther Werks are relatively young, but the quality of the build they have achieved in this Porsche 911 is incredible.
