The £11 Million 'Big 5' Ferrari Collection!   29 Apr 2021

Big 5

I recently had the privilege of visiting Ferrari Colchester, to view the big 5 collection of Ferrari icons. Consisting of La Ferrari, Enzo, F50, F40 and even the 288 GTO, this incredible line up is worth £11m over just 5 cars!

It’s not uncommon at car events to see these cars in isolation, but all together, it’s a sight to behold. To see them all in historical order, all in the same colour and completely immaculate, is incredibly rare.

Starting by looking back to the 80’s with the 288 GTO, this car was developed whilst Enzo Ferrari was still alive. This car was pretty punchy at the time, running with a 2.9 litre twin turbo charged V8 engine, with 400bhp, it’s top speed when it was launched was 190mph. It’s the second rarest car in the line up, with a value of £2 million.

Moving down the line to the F40, this was Ferrari’s first 200mph road car, and the last car that was developed under Enzo. Featuring a 2.9 litre twin turbo charged engine and ultra-lightweight body, it’s capable of a massive deployment of power when driving. I still believe the F40 is one of the most exciting road cars to ever have been made!

On both the F40 and F50, you can really see the carbon weave body through the paint work. Whilst legend tells that this thin paint layer was applied to save weight, I’m almost certain that it’s not true, but I do like the mystery of it. However the F50 takes a jump up in spec, boasting 520bhp and coming in at £2.5 million. This car is rumoured to be one of the most thrilling, special driving experiences, with a manual V12 engines and no roof.

Ferrari Big 5 NEW

Looking forward to the Enzo, I remember seeing this car at a driving show when I was younger and learning to drive, and this was where the magic began. It’s probably the most iconic of the brand, holding Enzo’s name, which will stand the test of time, for all time. This car took a new step on in terms of technology too, by incorporating the paddle shift gearbox and reaching almost 220mph.

The most recent release, the La Ferrari, showcases the introduction of the hybrid era, with only 210 made. Reaching just shy of 1000bhp, and costing £3.5 million, the La Ferrari can reach 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. The downside to this car is that it doesn’t have any kind of boot, and really does need to be plugged in almost all of the time, as the batteries do drain rapidly.

However, it’s beautifully sculpted body and carbon fibre structure make up for these downfalls, and I can’t imagine the thrilling experience of driving this beauty without a roof on.

A huge thank you to Ferrari Colchester for organising this incredible line up for us and inviting me down to visit!
