NEW Valkyrie SPIDER! First Look At Aston’s Roofless Hypercar 11 Aug 2021

Valkyrie Spider 2

We are ecstatic to be granted first-look access to Aston Martin’s new hypercar – the new Valkyrie Spider. Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichmann, talked us through this feat of engineering.

Most striking, is the car’s adaptability. It’s truly an F1 adjacent vehicle, exposing the driver to the elements in classic style. We got an exclusive look at the half-door system in isolation, which opens in butterfly formation. The compactness of this system is astounding and can be stored virtually anywhere, I could even store it in my desk drawer! It embodies hidden engineering.

Valkyrie Spider

The blueprint for the car is Formula 1, both in engineering and aesthetics. It has a naturally aspirated V12 engine, F1 technology and all the materiality and down force, with the twist that you can drive it on the road. Of course, it still has so many parallels with the Valkyrie Coupe, with the front and rear the same in the Spider, right down to the tyres. With the Spider though, they’ve removed the roof as you get the exhilarating experience of the induction air whistling behind your ears.

Once the roof is removed, you can see the flowing curve of the tub and the attention to detail in design. Every piece of technology is front and centre and fully visible. Whether the roof is on or off, the interaction of the induction noise and the experience of driving the car is a truly unique experience.

Valkyrie Spider 4

This could be the last of the naturally aspirated V12 engines, and Aston Martin have certainly knocked it out of the park with the Spider. Marek Reichman assured us that the Spider would be on the road in the second half of 2022, and I couldn’t sum it up better than in his words: “Precision engineering and design in harmony”.
