My Dream Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 Joins The Garage 23 Aug 2021

For the next phase of our Modern Classics series, we were back up in Scotland at Porsche Perth. The stunning Porsche 997 GT3 RS is a limited-edition model with a classic look, and hopefully a ‘forever’ car. It’s one you never want to get out of!

A real jewel of this edition though, is the engine. Renowned Porsche engineer, Hans Metzger was responsible for developing the characterful engines of Porches, especially in the motorsports division. It was a celebration of the final run of Metzger engines, maxing it out to 4.0L engines for nearly 500hp – more power, less weight.

Motorsport DNA is built in. The rose joints make the car more in tune on the road, more direct and responsive. The bonnet and wing is carbon fibre, with the car providing 21lbs of additional torque to enhance interaction with the gears.

Most Porsches tend to be fitted with carbon ceramic brakes now, so you may be wondering why we opted for steel. We wanted tied-in red accents throughout the car; the GT3 RS comes with red brake callipers. The early bite is more pronounced, feeling slightly more comfortable and reliable than ceramic.

For the interior, the ergonomic folding carbon backed seats provide baggage space and fit far more comfortably than the Carrera style seats. The steering and gears provide a heavier, more assured driving experience. Aesthetically, the red accents continue. The tier 2 option for entertainment is, by modern standards, feeling a little dated, but installing the Porsche-certified Apple Car Play is an easy fix and is sure to be a game changer.

The subtle, but vital, final detail is that Porsche has included the that this car is number 241/600, a tradition that adds to the exclusivity, and classic style, of this special GT3 RS.
