Finishing out our first drive series, we’re back in Scotland and fresh out of the dealership with the new Porsche 911 GT3 (992).

Winding along the ‘Sma’ Glen’, the GT3 was already packing a big punch. Despite the run-in period needed on this brand-new machine, it would be remiss not to talk about its revised features. The double wishbone front end suspension, taken from the blueprint of the RSR race cars, allows greater surface contact with the front tyres. Less pitch angle means greater turn in, and more even wear, truly enhancing the longevity of the GT3.

The front end, similar to the McLarens, is telepathically responsive. Porsche has even revised the rear wheel steering, working seamlessly with the revised front end, it creates a steering experience which only needs guiding, rather than more active, forceful steering.

The way that the brakes promote deceleration is mind-blowing, even with fairly mild brake pressure, it anchors the car to the road surface, allowing a confident drive for novices and pros alike. We encountered some stretches of poor road surfacing, but the Porsche modulated and ironed out those creases perfectly; barely a challenge for the revised suspension.

Finally, let’s talk about horsepower; Porsche has rarely deviated from 500hp. Weighing at just over 1400kg, it can crank out 6000rpm, optimal miles per gallon and optimal smiles per gallon!  The turn-in on corners is unbeatable, and it beggars belief that its precision is possible on a road car.

As part of our project car series, we’re always looking for your input. The Porsche 991 GT3 (992) can be whatever you want it to be, so get in touch via the channel.
